Dane F. Boysen, April 14, 1964 to January 9, 2012

Dane Francis Boysen, 47, died at Stanford Hospital on January 9, 2012 from respiratory failure due to organ rejection. Dane received a heart and lung transplant at Stanford in March 2006 when his own organs were failing as a result of congenital birth defects. Though the life of a transplant recipient is difficult, he was grateful for the additional years he had to be with friends and family.

Dane overcame many challenges in his short life and, along the way, made a powerful impact on the people fortunate enough to know and love him. Dane was a very talented sports broadcaster and, under different life circumstances, would have had an amazing career. He was a dedicated historian on many topics, a knowledgeable and spirited sports fan, an enthusiastic film and television buff, and a loyal and compassionate friend. Dane made us feel special. Across miles and years of separation he could reach out and, with a few words and a laugh, he could bring the past into the present moment and wrap you back into the familiar weave of his history. He kept pace with a rhythm all his own and when you were close enough to him to feel the subtle vibration you always saw something in a new light, experienced it with a deeper appreciation, and learned something amazing about this strangely wonderful adventure we're sharing. Dane met life with optimism, humor, courage, dignity, and a healthy dose of irreverence. He met death with the same.

Dane was born in Berkeley, CA on April 14, 1964, the son of Joe and Merry (McGovern) Boysen and the grandson of Cy and Dolores (Parry) Boysen and of Merrill and Sally (Bonney) McGovern. He was the older brother of Grey Magauran (Greta Boysen) and Courtney Boysen (d. June 26, 2001). Dane attended John Burroughs High School (class of 1982) and the University of Redlands (class of 1989) and made his home in Pismo Beach, CA for the past 22 years. Dane is survived by his parents, sister, grandma Boysen, many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, and his cat Cleo, who miss him dearly.

A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 4th at Saint Finbar Church, 2010 W. Olive Ave. Burbank, CA 91506 (http://www.stfinbarburbank.org/). All fans of Dane, past and present, are welcome.
